Last week, Microsoft unveiled Office for iPad, making the tech giant a multi-platform player. Versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote are now available as free apps that allow file viewing, copying, and sharing. To get full editing capabilities, an Office 365 subscription is required. Reviewers say the iPad edition of Office is more robust than Office Online, but not quite as functional as Office 2013.
One standout feature of Office for iPad is simultaneous co-editing, a prized feature of Google Docs which Office now offers as well.
You’ll find the familiar Office layout, and your documents will render the same way whether you’re working on your mobile device, tablet, or computer. Office for iPad even boasts compatibility mode to adapt old documents to the new platforms.
